What You Should Know

In terms of the creator contract, we worked hard with our lawyer to make it as simple as possible. No extensive appendices and lengthy documentation: just a nice, clear deal with the bare minimum of Latin.

At Zeros 2 Heroes, we're all pretty much right-brained creative types and, as such, aren't really into complicated math. So we decided to make the creator compensation part of the deal equally simple.

For creators selected through Comic Creation Nation, we're offering a straight up 50/50 split of the gross revenues. Which, apparently, is pretty much unheard of for undiscovered writers.

Please note carefully the word "gross".  Hopefully it's not the last time you'll ever see it in one of your contracts, but it just might be.  Because only the cream of the Hollywood crop get a gross deal, which means that Z2H takes no deductions.  No overhead fees, no commissions, no expenses.  If a dollar comes in to Z2H, you get 50 cents. Period. 

Our lawyer assures us that we're absolutely out of our minds... and he might have a point. Future deals could necessarily become more complicated so it might be a good idea to strike while the iron is hot.

Give It Some Thought

Let's face it: comics are pretty hot right now and there are any number of deals out there... both online and offline. From all manner of companies.

We know this is a phenomenal deal for any creator, let alone a new one, but it still might not be right for you. Or maybe it isn't a good fit for the high concept story you have in mind. Maybe. But those of us at Zeros 2 Heroes who are writers very much wish that this deal had been around when we were first starting out. In fact, some of us wish it were around for us now.

As always, we urge you to take your career as a creator seriously and shop around. If you've got a lawyer or an agent, have him or her give it a read.
